Job Description: Welcome Bags Project Coordinator (part-time)
We are seeking a Project Coordinator who will conduct outreach activities, as well as coordinate and deliver welcome bags to 100 migrant workers (also known as Temporary Foreign Workers) in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Each welcome bag will include the following: multilingual information packages or booklet on local community resources and services; rights-related information; and essential items such as emergency preparedness materials, personal hygiene products, etc. The selected candidate must be based in Halifax.
Responsibilities:
Research and develop an information package or booklet on community resources and services available to migrant workers in the HRM
Develop and implement an outreach strategy for migrant workers in the HRM
Coordinate project logistics, including the following: planning, budgeting, procurement, packing, promotions, and distribution of Welcome Bags
Coordinate with Graphic Designer and CMWR NS staff on the design and creation of communications materials related to the project (ie. information packages and promotional materials)
Communicate and coordinate with migrant workers, volunteers, partner organizations and CMWR NS staff
Wrap-up activities including compiling project information (i.e. contacts), coordinating project evaluation and producing a brief written report on project results
Qualifications & Relevant Experience:
Driver’s license is required. Access to a car is strongly desired.
Prior experience in the coordination of logistics and projects
Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative
Demonstrated problem-solving skills
Prior experience in research and writing
Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate using different platforms and programs, including WhatsApp, Google Workspace, etc.
Able to work well independently and as part of a team
Previous experience working with marginalized communities, including immigrants, racialized people, people with low literacy, etc. is strongly desired
Experience working with volunteer-based teams and skilled in volunteer recruitment and coordination
Proficiency in Spanish or other languages spoken by migrant workers in HRM would be an asset
Conditions:
The contract will start in mid January and conclude by the end of March 2025.
The position is for 15-17 hours/week for 8-10 weeks with a pay rate of $26/hour for a maximum of 135 hours total. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined between the selected candidate and CMWR NS. Deliveries must be planned around migrant workers’ schedules.
The role will entail a combination of online work as well as in-person coordination and travel.
